Received 2 as a Christmas gift from my husband hoping to help with my sinuses. Can't speak for that as I've only had them on for 2 days. They are nice size. Love them and plan to purchase 2 more for my house. Love that they have a dimmer switch but wish it were closer to the lamp as you have to see the cord or reach behind other things to turn it on/off. I just leave mine on.
If you've been wanting to purchase a Himalayan salt crystal lamp for your home, but the natural stone shape hasn't felt quite right, then take a look at the modern allure of a salt lamp carved into a pristine decorative Himalayan salt crystal lamp shape. Cast a regal shine over your personal kingdom with the orb lamp, create a serene space for seeking enlightenment with the pyramid shape, or mimic a row of torches through your foyer with these flame-shaped lamps.
Incidentally, that nice pinkish color that glows once the bulb is turned on is the only thing you are going to get from a salt lamp. Salt lamps may look neat, but claims that they can do anything medically rely — fatally — on the claim that the lamps produce negative ions and then further rely on a series gross simplifications or misinterpretations of science to argue that those negative ions (which don’t exist in the first place) could affect you in any meaningful way.
Himalayan salt lamps purify air through the power of hygroscopy, meaning that they attract water molecules from the surrounding environment then absorb those molecules – as well as any foreign particles they may be carrying – into the salt crystal. As the HPS lamp warms up from the heat produced by the light bulb inside, that same water then evaporates back into the air and the trapped particles of dust, pollen, smoke, etc remain locked in the salt.
Salt is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water. This is why Himalayan pink salt crystals start to melt with prolonged exposure to high humidity. Thus, you should keep them away from household moisture sources like showers, dishwashers and laundry washing machines. It can be dangerous if the salt begins leaking onto the lamp holder. To avoid buying a substandard lamp holder, purchase a salt lamp that’s firmly connected to the base. It’s also ideal to find a salt lamp that has UL certification, which is an extra measure of safety assurance. (11)
Real Himalayan salt lamps are made of salt so it’s not surprising that they’re fragile objects. A good manufacturer knows this and has return policies that are flexible since there could be some damage in transit. If a salt lamp’s maker is extremely strict (like a “NO RETURNS” policy), then it makes you wonder if it’s a scam operation. This might not necessarily be the case, but some fake retailers have been known not to permit any returns because they know they’re not giving you the real thing.
Thanks to sites like this one,I bought 3 salt lamps. One that’s about a foot, and a half tall, with 2 smaller ones for: the master bedroom, living room, and home office. It’s been over 3 months now,and I feel they are keeping the air fresher/cleaner than my air purifier ever did. As for affecting our mood.I would say to some extent, yes due to the salt lamo’s warm glow. I always prefer, and use a dimmer for low light anyways. Trying to be “greener” by reducing emissions as much as possible. Drive a plugin car. At some point,I would love to install a battery wall, powered by solar.
Equal parts understated accent and eye-popping centerpiece, this bold table lamp lends an unexpected touch to any display. Featuring a striking Himalayan crystal salt orb perched on a simple brown base, this luminary lends a touch of eclectic appeal to your look. Set it on a stack of hardcover novels on your living room chest to add an abstract twist to your stately aesthetic, then add in a clean-lined ceramic vase to finish off the look in low-key fashion. Looking for the perfect ambience in...
So many things around us nowadays release electromagnetic radiation in the form of unhealthy positive ions — things like your cell phone, computer and television, just to name a few. This electromagnetic radiation (EM), aka electrosmog, may be invisible but is believed to cause some serious long-term effects. Constant exposure to EM radiation is known primarily to cause fatigue, increase stress and weaken the immune system.
However, there is no evidence that these lamps produce meaningful amounts of negatively charged particles, or ions, or that they reduce pollutants in the air. To assess the health claims, scientists need to answer three basic questions: Does Himalayan salt contain any special ingredients that could somehow positively affect health? Do negative ions benefit health? And if they do benefit health, do these lamps produce them in any quantity? Malin said. On all three counts, there is little-to-no evidence supporting the claims, he said.
Houseplants are a great way to improve indoor air quality. Not only do they add oxygen, many plants absorb volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other harmful chemicals from the air. Commercial air purifiers don’t remove these gaseous chemicals from the air, according to the EPA. However, opening a window or two does help clear them out of your home.
Salt therapy for breathing problems is said to have begun with Siberian salt mine workers in the later 1800s who had a surprisingly small number of respiratory problems compared to people around them with less salty professions. Nowadays, you can find salt caves at various spas, and this salt cave experience is also trying to be re-created with the invention of salt pipe inhalers. Salt lamps are another smaller-scale way to bring the salt cave experience (and hopefully the health benefits) home. (6)

Crystal salt comes from many places in the world. Many resources online will have you believe that only Himalayan salt is “real” and “authentic” but this is false information and most of the “sources” don’t actually own salt lamps or sell them. We have imported salt lamps from Poland (the birth place of salt lamps) and even Iran and have tested them with countless devices all proven to work the way salt lamps work.
NOTE: All products are hand-carved from naturally occurring Himalayan salt and may vary in size, shape, color, weight and overall appearance. Salt lamps, which are merely light bulbs of varying wattages placed within blocks of rock salt of varying sizes, have become an increasingly popular product in the alternative medicine scene and are marketed as “natural ionizers.” An ionizer, in theory, produces ions, which are atoms or molecules with a net positive or negative charge caused by an uneven number of protons to electrons.

I got this as a gift for my daughter last year. Recently, she smelled an electrical smell coming from her bedroom and discovered that the dimmer switch on this lamp had melted. She is just lucky it did not start a fire. We saw a post on fb the other day that indicated that another company of salt lamps was having this problem. I also have one from this company too and am now afraid to leave it unattended. What is up with these dimmer switches?
