Himalayan salt lamps are a must-have when you're looking for peace of mind and a healthier lifestyle. Why buy a regular lamp when you can buy a salt lamp that provides you with a Himalayan glow from an included light bulb and also purifies your air at the same time? Light up your life and remove negative ions with a natural lamp made from pure salt.
What to look for The soft, warm glow of a salt lamp can make anyone feel more relaxed and in touch with nature. If you are looking to create a more mindful space, try adding a salt lamp. One thing to look out for when choosing a lamp is its authenticity. The salt is mined from the Himalayas, so it is best to check where your lamp is from. If it is not authentic Himalayan salt, you won’t experience all the benefits!
In addition to generating negative ions which improve mood and energy levels, the soft, natural light given off by a Himalayan pink salt lamp is close enough to the warm glow of sunshine that they can even be used to relieve the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder. This year when the days get shorter, fight back the lethargy by surrounding yourself with a few HPS lamps set on timers.
And I’m a sucker for lighting. I own various smart LED lights, an artificial dawn simulator, multi color LED strips, special bulbs which are all great to adjust the hue to a certain time of the day (orange hugging bed time), blue-ish when it’s hot weather, another hue during movie time.) but still, none of these lights emits the soothing glow my HPS lamp does.
If you've been wanting to purchase a Himalayan salt crystal lamp for your home, but the natural stone shape hasn't felt quite right, then take a look at the modern allure of a salt lamp carved into a pristine decorative Himalayan salt crystal lamp shape. Cast a regal shine over your personal kingdom with the orb lamp, create a serene space for seeking enlightenment with the pyramid shape, or mimic a row of torches through your foyer with these flame-shaped lamps.

The Himalayan pink salt lamp lets off this beautiful pink/orange glow that is reminiscent of a sunset. Just as the blue light is energizing, the slower wavelengths in the warmer colors are relaxing to the mind and easier on the eyes. I think about it like the difference in the natural energy cycle at high noon and at sunset. The salt lamp is great for balancing the extra blue light.

Our 100% premium and authentic Himalayan Salt Lamps come from the highest quality mine in the world - the Khewra Salt Mine in Pakistan. This pristine crystal salt is hundreds of millions of years old and, as a result, has special properties and a high mineral content. The bulb inside the lamp heats the salt causing it to emit negative ions that naturally clean the air in your home. So, in addition to being an original and beautiful work of art, these Himalayan Salt Lamps also have a significant health benefit. Sellers of these spa-like room accessories claim the lamps can "clear the air of electro-smog," oxygenate the brain, reduce symptoms of such mood disorders as seasonal affective disorder and even improve the immune system. Proponents claim these lamps work in two ways: They attract allergens and pollutants from the air to their surface, and they generate negative ions.
In the studies, negative air ionization is created with a machine that adds an electron to oxygen molecules to create a negative ion. Negative ions are also created in nature by crashing ocean waves, radiation, and even sunlight. These ions are believed to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood, but researchers are still looking into their exact influence on the body.
I have beautiful lamps from http://www.sowellmade.com, I use them in my birds rooms and all over the house. Even my dogs love them! They have these dimmers on them, which is excellent to have! I was told to keep them on as much as possible and use as many in the house as I could for best results. The company is wonderful! and the selection is wonderful. And I think they are fair trade which you never know when buying products made oversees how they are being made.
Negative ions bind to positive ions in the environment, neutralizing them before they have a chance to get into our bodies and wreak havoc. Studies have shown negative ions to help increase serotonin and oxygen levels in the brain, which can decrease drowsiness, alleviate stress, and boost energy. In fact, some studies suggest they’re as effective as antidepressants for people experiencing chronic depression or seasonal affective disorder.
This claim has existed sporadically in the scientific literature for decades, but ultimately is not supported by current science. A 2013 review of psychological effects attributed to air ions, which looked at 33 studies from 1957 to 2012 evaluating “the effects of air ionization on depression, anxiety, mood states, and subjective feelings of mental well-being”, concluded:
Scientific studies show that Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamps give your body the same relaxed feeling you experience when enjoying a day at the beach. Like the salty ocean air, our Himalayan Salt Lamps are an amazing generator of negative ions! Technically the Salt Lamps and Abundance Salt Bowls ease a person into an alpha state, a state in which you feel completely in the moment and not distracted by the stress of the day.
“The lady doth protest too much…” This article suggests to me that the writer or those who have paid to writer has a hidden agenda. And I’ll cite that science has made our world into a shit hole where we are now browbeaten into accepting and trusting conventional gangster snake oil medicine, pesticides, herbicides, fluoride, mercury laced vaccines, etc., and so on, all of which is touted to be good for us but which is poison to us while we are ridiculed and discouraged by science “experts” from using natural solutions. Science and scientists have betrayed us. And why? Because they are funded by those who want to continue to poison us. If the writer of this article is in earnest, then the writer has been thoroughly, successfully indoctrinated into serving on the wrong side of history.
A fireside glow holds a special place in our hearts thanks to the beauty and warmth it casts around it, making an ordinary evening into something special and unique. Now, a busy modern life keeps the majority of us from having the time to get away from the constant barrage of radiation and information that technology is throwing at us. You can get a glow that's just as soothing with even more health benefits with a Himalayan basket salt lamp.
This unique large Belcourt Natural 14" Salt Lamp is made from salt crystals gathered at the foothills of the Himalayas; crystals that produce a deeper, darker red glow. Heating the salt with the included bulb releases negative ions into the air, creating an effect similar to an ionizer. The outside surface of the lamp stays cool to the touch, as the heat of the light is dissipated within the salt. Due to the natural variation in rock salt, weight, size, color and shape may vary. The shape of...
Since positive ions are often created by electronic devices like computers, TVs, microwaves, and even vacuum cleaners, they can often exacerbate problems like allergies, stress and sleep trouble. Negative ions can neutralize positive ions (they bond together) and help cleanse the air. Additionally, salt lamps offer a soothing glow that many people find relaxing.

“I love your Himalayan salt lamps, I bought one for my six year old daughter Izabella who suffers from severe allergies. She had inner nose nodules and within three days of sleeping with her lamp they have shrunk in size. She has had her lamp for months, she has also had less allergy fevers. I love this product!!!! I also bought one for my mother Donna age 78, who has had asthma since she was a child. She also suffers from emphysema, so breathing and coughing is a normal in her everyday life. Since having the salt lamp in the family room where she spends most of her time, she has drastically stopped coughing so much.  She is also down on how much she uses her inhaler a day, seriously down from 8 times to 2, that is amazing!!!!“  Gabriel Mollina
The bulb inside of the lamp heats the crystal and supports the ionizing effect. Salt itself is hygroscopic and attracts the water from the surroundings. You can often see that the salt lamp is damp or even wet, especially in more humid environments. Due to the gentle heat of the lamp, the water quickly evaporates and during the evaporation process the beneficial negative ions get created. They go on to bind with excessive positive ions (bacteria, molds and allergens all carry a positive charge) and neutralize the electronic smog in your home.
Himalayan pink salt has quickly risen in popularity due to its alleged healing properties and its unique aesthetic appeal. Whether you are buying spices from the grocery store, booking a spa treatment or shopping for home decor, you will probably come across the pink-orange salt. One of the most common uses of Himalayan pink salt is in table lamps that are often recommended for their alleged healing properties.

It’s true! They’re called salt lamps or salt rock lamps, and yes, they’re actually made from pink Himalayan salt and are able to light your surroundings — but they’re really not bought for their moderate lighting abilities. There are major claims that a Himalayan salt lamp does much more than provide you with a pretty glow. Himalayan salt lamp benefits supposedly include decreasing air pollution, negative ions and electrosmog caused by electronic devices in addition to symptom reduction for people suffering from from asthma, allergies and other illnesses.
As I just said, Himalayan salt lamps are inherently fragile. Once you own one, you definitely need to be careful not to drop it or bang it into other solid objects because the salt crystal can be damaged very easily. This is actually a rare time when durability is not desirable. If your salt lamp is unaffected by a collision, it could likely be an imposter.
Salt therapy for breathing problems is said to have begun with Siberian salt mine workers in the later 1800s who had a surprisingly small number of respiratory problems compared to people around them with less salty professions. Nowadays, you can find salt caves at various spas, and this salt cave experience is also trying to be re-created with the invention of salt pipe inhalers. Salt lamps are another smaller-scale way to bring the salt cave experience (and hopefully the health benefits) home. (6)

Where do you purchase one that can be left on for long periods of time? I want to be sure if my fiance leaves the thing on overnight, we won’t burn the entire house down! My friend told me about the base of your salt lamp really matters. Wood doesn’t do so good, but having a steel base helps to absorb moisture and its safe to use for long periods of time. There’s so many brands out there manufacturing these, so be sure to look out for a steel base!

We spend nearly all of our time surrounded by electronic devices that emit radiation, which has been proven to be harmful. Furthermore, unnatural florescent or radiant lighting has none of the beneficial effects of sunlight. By replacing your light source with a natural Himalayan salt lamp, you can noticeably improve your living space in every area impacted by these side effects of the modern world.
The other claim, discussed in more detail below, has to do with a study published on the effects of ionization in neural structures and blood flow in laboratory rats. In a similar issue of blindly comparing different scales, these rats (which are both not human and much smaller than humans) were directly fed negatively ionized air at high concentrations that would be inconceivable for a block of salt to produce, even if it did produce some small amount of ions.
Some say that positive ion buildup from electrical appliances can negatively affect a person’s health and mood. However, researchers doubt that ions have the potential to affect respiratory or other biological systems. There is currently no evidence to support the claimed benefits of negatively-charged ions for those suffering from allergy or asthma symptoms (Alexander, et. al, 2013).

No consistent influence of positive or negative air ionization on anxiety, mood, relaxation, sleep, and personal comfort measures was observed. Negative air ionization was associated with lower depression scores particularly at the highest exposure level. Future research is needed to evaluate the biological plausibility of this association. Even though they don’t make a huge difference in negative ions and they aren’t going to be as effective as an air purifier, they make a great addition to a space and definitely have a positive impact in some way. The aesthetic alone makes the lamp worth keeping around, and if it has an effect on the air and helps to calm our minds even in the slightest, then it’s even more worth it!
Despite numerous experimental and analytical differences across studies, the literature does not clearly support a beneficial role in exposure to negative air ions and respiratory function or asthmatic symptom alleviation. Further, collectively, the human experimental studies do not indicate a significant detrimental effect of exposure to positive air ions on respiratory measures. Exposure to negative or positive air ions does not appear to play an appreciable role in respiratory function.

Himalayan salt lamps have the ability to chemically and physically transform a room, and have unique health benefits. People who use pink Himalayan salt lamps say that they help to increase blood flow, reduce allergy symptoms and even help to get a better sleep. Some of the other health benefits of Himalayan pink salt lamps (HPS lamps) include reduction of mental health related disorders, improvement of skin conditions and respiratory problems such as asthma and even colds.

So Well Himalayan salt lamps do not generate negative ions themselves. They are “hygroscopic,” which means that they attract moisture… humidity… airborne water molecules; it is a natural property of sodium chloride (hygroscopy). Since they do not generate the negative ions, they need a heat source (in this case, heat from an incandescent bulb) to accelerate evaporation, which does produce negative ions. In more humid regions, an unlit salt lamp will eventually “cry,” even creating puddles of water at its base. It is this evaporation that generates the negative ions, which are beneficial to our health.
Himalayan salt lamps purify the air through hygroscopy. The salt lamp attracts water from surrounding areas and absorbs the water vapor molecules along with any particles that those molecules may be carrying. The light inside of the lamp helps the salt to warm up, making that water evaporate back into the air while the unwanted, foreign particles stay trapped inside the salt. Science is pretty neat, am I right?
If you’re in the market for a Himalayan salt lamp, you want to do your homework to make sure you choose the best option possible. There are said to be several ways to tell if you have a salt lamp that’s the real deal. Unfortunately, some of these characteristics will only be made known to you if you read reviews very carefully or, the less desirable scenario, once you’ve been actually using it in your home for a while (so hang on to that receipt!).
Mauritane Contemporary Handcrafted 6.75" Salt Lamp is not only visually stunning but provides innumerable health benefits. It is natural negative ion generators. Simply put, salt attracts moisture. The interaction of humid air with the surface of the salt crystal releases negative ions. The negative ions bind to the position ions that are created by electronic devices known as “electronic smog” (computers, television screens, telephones, microwaves, etc.). The positively charged ions...
All matter (the human body, air, water, etc) is made up of molecules which are made up of atoms which are made up of three types of particles: protons (positive charge), electrons (negative charge), and neutrons (no charge). Electrons orbit their molecules like planets revolve around a star. Occasionally an electron flies off and when it does, it leaves behind a positively-charged ion whose sole purpose in life becomes to fill the void left by its little lost electron. In other words: it wants to steal a replacement electron from another molecule. Due to differences in molecular structure (number of electrons in the outermost orbit, strength and structure of electron bonds, etc) some materials lose electrons much more easily than others.
To get the full benefits of Himalayan Salt Lamps its generally recommended to leave the salt lamp turned on all the time, as the more you leave it on, the greater air ionizing and purifying effect it will have. The lamps are generally safe to leave on at all times, but if you plan on to leave your home for an extended period of time, for example if you go on vacation, then it’s best to unplug it until you return.
Deep underground mines in Khewra, Pakistan, are the only source of true Himalayan pink salt. If you’re questioning whether you have a real Himalayan salt lamp, look for mention of Pakistan as the salt crystal’s country of origin. You can also ask the lamp’s maker about the salt’s origin, keeping in mind that it may list the country of origin as the location of the lamp’s assembly.
While not a “health benefit” at first glance, static is pesky stuff. It causes stress, embarrassment, and frustration. Static zaps you when you least expect it, as you’re reaching for a door handle, kissing your husband or wife before bed, or trying to pet your dog or cat. Static can give you a bad hair day, make it impossible to clean crumbs or coffee grounds off of the kitchen counter, and even cause you to accidentally go to work with a sock stuck to the back of your shirt…
The negative ions are generated by a continuous interplay of water attraction and evaporation. The salt crystal lamp attracts water molecules from the surrounding air to its warm surface. The water and salt form a solution. In the process of evaporation of the solution, due to the heat of the lamp, negatively charged ions are created. Both positive and negative ions are created but much more negative ions than positive ions are created, therefore providing a surplus of negative ions. Natrium [another word for sodium] is positively charged. This unique ion emission interplay ability with water is because of salt’s neutral atomic structure.

A few isolated studies have shown modest and equivocal effects from negative ionization. For instance, in 1981, researchers at the University of Surrey in England looked at the incidence of stuffiness, nausea, dizziness and headaches in people in an office environment. They found office air had fewer negative ions than is typical outside. So the team conducted a double-blind study and found that the reintroduction of ions reduced the incidence of these symptoms over a 12-week period. The findings were published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology. A 1993 study published in the Journal of Human Ergonomics found that negative ions could slightly affect people's circadian rhythms, although they had no impact on anxiety or exercise levels.
