Owning a Himalayan rock salt lamp could be the perfect addition to creating a more mindful space and helping you live a more comfortable, natural lifestyle. Not only do these pink salt lamps provide a soothing, therapeutic glow to any room in which they’re placed, but they can help detoxify your environment by removing negative contaminants and leaving you with a more natural living space.
The warm light of this Natural Night Light creates a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The heated salt crystal is a natural air purifier: a 15-watt bulb releases negative ions into the air, creating one effect is similar to an ion generator, which can absorb secondhand smoke, pet dander, pollen and other air pollutants in the air to make you breathe smoothly. Regular use helps to reduce its shape.
This wonderful accent light features a crystal salt block that comes from a mine at the foot of the Himalayas. Placed over a light source, the stone shines with a warm and inviting glow. It makes a perfect room accent in home theater settings, or add visual interest to side tables and display shelves. The stone sits in a hardwood base. The shape of stone may vary slightly. Salt Crystal is a Natural Air Purifier. The Himalayan Natural Crystal Salt Lamp also works as an air purifier. When lit...

When it comes to buying Himalayan pink salt lamps, take into consideration the size of the room in which you wish to use your lamp. The coverage of a salt lamp is determined by the size of the salt crystal. For the average-sized bedroom, a smaller lamp is usually adequate, but if you’re looking to use it in a larger area like your living room, you want to go bigger. On average, to effectively cleanse the air of a space, you need one pound of salt rock for every 16 square feet (four feet by four feet) area. If needed, you can always use multiple salt lamps spread out in a single room.

This unique large Belcourt Natural 14" Salt Lamp is made from salt crystals gathered at the foothills of the Himalayas; crystals that produce a deeper, darker red glow. Heating the salt with the included bulb releases negative ions into the air, creating an effect similar to an ionizer. The outside surface of the lamp stays cool to the touch, as the heat of the light is dissipated within the salt. Due to the natural variation in rock salt, weight, size, color and shape may vary. The shape of...
Sellers of these spa-like room accessories claim the lamps can "clear the air of electro-smog," oxygenate the brain, reduce symptoms of such mood disorders as seasonal affective disorder and even improve the immune system. Proponents claim these lamps work in two ways: They attract allergens and pollutants from the air to their surface, and they generate negative ions.
Mauritane Handcrafted 6.75" Salt Lamp is not only visually stunning but provides innumerable health benefits. They are natural negative ion generators. Simply put, salt attracts moisture. The interaction of humid air with the surface of the salt crystal releases negative ions. The negative ions bind to the position ions that are created by electronic devices known as “electronic smog” (computers, television screens, telephones, microwaves, etc.). The positively charged ions lose their...
That doesn’t mean the people who have experienced benefits are entirely wrong, though. Kogan told SheKnows it’s possible the lamp provides a placebo effect. Essentially, a person believes the salt lamps will help, there’s a psychological component to their issue, and thus the lamp does relieve some of their symptoms. “It’s more of a mind-body effort, really, because it’s not like there’s some kind of biochemical being released from the lamp,” she said.
Some electromagnetic waves carry so much energy per quantum that they have the ability to break bonds between molecules. In the electromagnetic spectrum, gamma rays given off by radioactive materials, cosmic rays and X-rays carry this property and are called ‘ionizing radiation’. Fields whose quanta are insufficient to break molecular bonds are called ‘non-ionizing radiation’. Man-made sources of electromagnetic fields that form a major part of industrialized life — electricity, microwaves and radiofrequency fields — are found at the relatively long wavelength and low frequency end of the electromagnetic spectrum and their quanta are unable to break chemical bonds.

When it comes to buying Himalayan pink salt lamps, coverage is determined by the size of the crystal. Smaller lamps (like this 5-8 lbs lamp) are good for the average bedroom, while larger lamps (like this 11-15 lbs lamp) are better for spaces like the living room or den. On average, calculate that 1 lb of Himalayan salt crystal will cleanse the air in approximately a 4′ x 4′ area.

I think people should just try them for their selves and make up their own minds. I know a someone that has been a teacher for 30 plus years and she swears by them. She has used these salt lights in her class room for the past 5yrs and like she said it’s just her opinion but her class rooms have been a lot calmer since she’s been using them. SHE has even gone as dark as to have themy off for months just to see if they were truly working. Oh ya she is a elementary teacher.

Nowadays, most of us are living in a metaphorical ocean of electromagnetic (EM) radiation which flows from our electronics (ie: television, computer, cell phone, tablet, appliances, sterio, etc). While they may be invisible, the long-term effects of EM exposure can be quite serious. Constant exposure to EM radiation is known to increase stress levels, cause chronic fatigue, and decrease the body’s immune response, among other things.
So far there are no scientific studies on the ability of Himalayan salt lamps to produce negative ions. However, the few ions, if any, emitted by the salt lamp are different from the negative air ion machines used in clinical studies, according to the Columbia University Medical Center. The Negative Ion Information Center attempted to test the amount of ions released by a popular salt lamp and found that the negative ion emissions were so low that they could barely be measured.
Beauchamp was skeptical that a heated block of sodium chloride would produce ions (any amount of them, positive or negative ones, let alone “boundless amounts”) but not so skeptical that he didn’t want to hook up the most popular salt lamp available from Amazon.com to his lab’s quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. This instrument, in essence, sucks in air from directly around the solid and analyzes the mass and charge of particles captured by the instrument. Here’s Beauchamp description of what he did in his own words:

Everyday appliances such as televisions, cell phones, computers and tablets release positive ions into the air constantly. These and other common electronics can cause an overflow of electromagnetic radiation (EM), which, although invisible, is believed to cause some serious long-term effects. Constant exposure to EM radiation is known primarily to cause fatigue, increase stress and weaken the immune system. Himalayan salt lamps emit negative ions and cancel out positive ones. Therefore, by neutralizing electromagnetic radiation, they help reduce artificial frequencies and even prevent static buildup.

Generally speaking, negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy,” says Pierce J. Howard, PhD, author of The Owners Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research and director of research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, N.C.
These studies, however, used high concentrations of negative ions generated by industrial scale ion generators. Seeing as we have uncovered no evidence to support the claim a salt lamp produces any ions, the notion that a $29.99 block of rock with a light bulb could rival the power of a specifically designed laboratory equipment seems dubious. Much of the pseudoscience written about the positive effects of negative ions similarly disregards scale in their analyses, equating negative ionization at any level as the same phenomenon.

Real Himalayan salt lamps are actually solid blocks of Himalayan salt that have been hand-carved. Deep underground mines in Khewra, Pakistan, located on the western edge of the Himalayan Mountains, are the only source of true Himalayan pink salt. The color of Himalayan salt lamps ranges from a light pink to a pinkish orange with the hue a result of the mineral concentration. Within the hollowed-out center of this block of salt is a light bulb that emits both light and heat. A salt lamp is not a lamp at all if it doesn’t have the light and heat source within it. Without that, it’s just a block of salt.
This Himalayan salt lamp amongst the rest are an environmentally friendly light source. Many are powered by low-wattage bulbs that consume only a small amount of energy, while others are lit simply by the flame of a candle. This lamp is beautiful and unique and remains classic with it's style making it a beautiful addition to the home. With over 6,688 customer reviews on Amazon, this is our top pick!
First of all, salts are compounds which are made from combinations of elements that form ionic bonds. Ionic bonds are chemical bonds where the valence electron(s) which participate in bonding are not shared equally by the two atoms. Ionic compounds form in nature with a nearly perfect balance of charge so that there are just as many positive ions as negative ions in the compound. Because of this if a big block of salt were to release lots of negative ions into the air it would develop a net positive charge which would not allow more negative ions to be released. One way that negative ions could be released is if the block of salt released both negative and positive ions into the air in equal proportions. This, however, would have just as much of a negative effect, from the positive, “free radical” ions, as a positive effect from the negative ions.

The Himalayan pink salt lamp lets off this beautiful pink/orange glow that is reminiscent of a sunset. Just as the blue light is energizing, the slower wavelengths in the warmer colors are relaxing to the mind and easier on the eyes. I think about it like the difference in the natural energy cycle at high noon and at sunset. The salt lamp is great for balancing the extra blue light.

Hi Alex, Himalayan salt lamp is a type of rock salt lamp – they are made from salt crystals from the Himalayan mountain regions and come in variety of shades such as white or orange/pink. There are other rock salt lamps that come from a number of other locations throughout the world (although some claim that the finest quality comes from the Himalaya).
“The lady doth protest too much…” This article suggests to me that the writer or those who have paid to writer has a hidden agenda. And I’ll cite that science has made our world into a shit hole where we are now browbeaten into accepting and trusting conventional gangster snake oil medicine, pesticides, herbicides, fluoride, mercury laced vaccines, etc., and so on, all of which is touted to be good for us but which is poison to us while we are ridiculed and discouraged by science “experts” from using natural solutions. Science and scientists have betrayed us. And why? Because they are funded by those who want to continue to poison us. If the writer of this article is in earnest, then the writer has been thoroughly, successfully indoctrinated into serving on the wrong side of history.

Received 2 as a Christmas gift from my husband hoping to help with my sinuses. Can't speak for that as I've only had them on for 2 days. They are nice size. Love them and plan to purchase 2 more for my house. Love that they have a dimmer switch but wish it were closer to the lamp as you have to see the cord or reach behind other things to turn it on/off. I just leave mine on.
