This lamp is beautiful and unique and remains classic with it's style making it a beautiful addition to the home. With over 6,688 customer reviews on Amazon, this is our top pick!
Mauritane 8" Salt Lamp is not only visually stunning but provides innumerable health benefits. It is natural negative ion generators. Simply put, salt attracts moisture. The interaction of humid air with the surface of the salt crystal releases negative ions. The negative ions bind to the position ions that are created by electronic devices known as “electronic smog” (computers, television screens, telephones, microwaves, etc.). The positively charged ions lose their damaging...
When the Himalayan salt lamp heats up and begins its hygroscopic cycling of airborne particles, it also changes the charge of the molecules which are released. (Remember our chemistry lesson?) The majority of homes are filled with positively charged ions which aren’t particularly good for a person’s health. The positive ions are created by a number of things, but the primary source for most of us is from our electronics.

These photos look fine to me. But I have seen plenty of post from Kim and Chloe where they have photoshopped their babies to make them look more white skinned and blue-eyed. I find that highly disturbing, they are beautiful black babies and you let them be beautiful dark featured children. You are sending your daughter's a message that those features are not attractive. That is a disgusting and disturbing thing for a mother to do ,shame on you two.

The main filter for our respiratory systems is cilia. According to a study by EMR Labs, inhaling positive ions can break down the thrombocytes, leading to the formation of antibodies and allergens, which will thicken the mucous around the cilia. Ionized air promotes the much-needed negative ions to combat and attach themselves to the positive ions, purifying the air of pathogens and irritable particles. The use of salt pipes has especially proven useful in treating respiratory conditions and allergies.
As for cleaning your salt lamp, it is normal for your salt lamp to accumulate dust and dirt, and the proper way to clean it is to switch off the lamp, use a moist cloth to wipe it away. Make sure never to make it completely wet, or it will spoil your lamp. Salt lamps also need to be wiped off, when it is ‘sweating.’ In case it gets very wet, dry it under air or strong Sun for 4-5 hours.
"There has been some talk in the holistic community about the fact that electromagnetic radiation from cellphones, from microwaves, from computers, creates positive ionization of our body," Kogan explained to TODAY. "The talk has been that the negative ions supposedly produced by the lamps help to neutralize the positive charge. But to be honest with you... I haven't seen any large studies that would confirm this."
Salt is hygroscopic, which means it attracts water molecules to itself. Being the big hunk of salt that it is, a Himalayan salt lamp is believed to work by attracting the water molecules. This water vapor can also carry indoor air pollutants like mold, bacteria and allergens. Once the water vapor comes in contact with the salt lamp, the pollutants are believed to remain trapped in the salt. Since the lamp is heated, the salt dries out and is able to continue the cycle of attracting water vapor and pollutants, releasing the water vapor back into the air but holding on to the health-hazardous pollutants.
Himalayan salt is now used in inhalers to bring relief to asthma and allergy sufferers. Salt therapy is also used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. COPD is a debilitating and degenerative lung disease characterized by the restriction of airflow in and out of the lungs. According to the Lung Institute, “Some people have found salt therapy to be an effective option for relieving symptoms of lung disease, resulting in easier breathing.”

EDIT: After a bit more research it seems the manufacturer may have changed the dimmer to a safer version recently. Here is a picture of mine for reference. If your dimmer has these markings it is the version that is faulty and will burn up. The little thing next to the cover is the transistor that burned up. It used to have three terminals but the other one disintegrated.
A Himalayan salt lamp will clean, deodorize and ionize the air, getting rid of unwanted pollutants and allergens. A salt lamp will help you say goodbye to dust, pollen, pollutants and smoke! Himalayan salt lamps are also known to increase your energy levels, remove negative ions, neutralize electromagnetic radiation, and provoke better sleep habits. The lamps improve mood and concentration, reduce static electricity and provide you with an environmental-friendly glow by a dim light bulb.

not sure enough heat would ever be produced by a salt lamp to give off Chlorine gas. At least you don't need to worry about being poisoned by your lamps. The salt may absorb water, and form solution sodium and calcium in solution, which could have an ionic character owing to the polar nature of water -- my knowledge of chemistry isn't sophisticated enough to know -- but it will re-crystalise into salt when the water evaporates. Incidentally, there are absolutely ZERO scientific studies of salt lamps.

However, there is no evidence that these lamps produce meaningful amounts of negatively charged particles, or ions, or that they reduce pollutants in the air. To assess the health claims, scientists need to answer three basic questions: Does Himalayan salt contain any special ingredients that could somehow positively affect health? Do negative ions benefit health? And if they do benefit health, do these lamps produce them in any quantity? Malin said. On all three counts, there is little-to-no evidence supporting the claims, he said.
